Please review the following URL and make sure that it is spelled correctly. Plaquenil (hydroxychloroquine) belongs to a group of medicines called quinolines.

I recently decided to stop taking Plaquenil because I was having constant chest pains even more so than I usually have due to Lupus. Since I have not taken it my chest feels so much better which is odd because chest pain is not listed as a side effect. Also I noticed that the Plaquenil I think was making me feel different but not in a good way. Oct 09, 2015 My Neurologist then advised me to come off Plaquenil as he said it was such a nasty drug! No communication between the pair of them within the same hospital, where I also work ironically! Within a few weeks of coming off Plaquenil I was in a massive, and I do mean MASSIVE relapse, which took ages to get over. My last exam is showing early signs of Macular Degeneration and the Opthamalogist indicated she was recommending that my Rhuemie take me off Plaquenil. From what I've read here it seems we all get different information on the same issue. This is why I love the forums- at least we have a safe place to compare notes and share experiences.

Malaria is common in areas such as Africa, South America, and Southern Asia. Plaquenil is used to treat or prevent malaria, a disease caused by parasites that enter the body through the bite of a mosquito.

  3. I was on steroids for about 2 months and then taken off and given Plaquenil. In May, my doctor had me stop taking the plaquenil and started me on Imuran because I could still feel the pluersy. Last week's appt, she started me on Plaquenil and increased my imuran because I can still feel the pluersy when I take a super deep breath.

It is the practice of some patients from sunnier countries, such as Greece, to take Plaquenil in the summer months, coming off for winter. Dose. The normal dose of Plaquenil is 1 tablet a day 200mg/day. Some doctors recommend 2 a day 400mg/day but we find that 1 a day suits most people - the dose can always be increased for a flare. Jul 18, 2013 TMA Member I always thought that I was taking methotrexate for the muscles and plaquenil for the skin. However, I gather that methotrexate also works on the skin? My doctor took me off plaquenil and lowered the methotrexate dosage. My skin erupted with sores, itch, scabs etc. Could the lowering of the metho had anything to do with this? Thank you. Yes. My doctor took me completely off without tapering when I was diagnosed with central vision loss. I think macular degeneration is different but regardless, I didn't have to taper off Plaquenil like I would with a steroid. I'd been taking the highest dose permitted by the FDA for at least 3 years.

Does Methotrexate Cause Tinnitus? There are other drugs for chemotherapy, though most of them tend to cause tinnitus as a side-effect, at least in some people. These drugs include Plantinol, Parlodel, Velban, Oncovin, and more. Some of the more common side-effects of this powerful drug include severe toxicity of the liver, upset stomach, low white counts, and mouth sores.

Has anyone had hearing problems on Hydroxychloroquine.
