I have been taking 400 mg plaquenil for 8 months now and 4 months ago I started getting dizzy a lot and having vertigo attacks. I won't drive on the interstate anymore because I'm afraid I will get an attack and kill myself and someone else on the road because I usually lose all sense of. I don't know if anyone can help as this isn't technically lupus related. I've been on plaquenil for 6 months for suspected Sjogren's syndrome I don't have antibodies for Sjorgren's or Lupus but I do have Hashimoto's and have all the symptoms for Sjorgren's so the rheumatologist suggested a trial of plaquenil. Hydroxychloroquine HCQ, sold under the brand name Plaquenil among others, is a medication used for the prevention and treatment of certain types of malaria. Specifically it is used for chloroquine-sensitive malaria. Other uses include treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, and porphyria cutanea tarda. It is taken by mouth.

This medication is also used, usually with other medications, to treat certain auto-immune diseases (lupus, rheumatoid arthritis) when other medications have not worked or cannot be used. Discuss the most recent information with your doctor before traveling to areas where malaria occurs.

  7. I just saw my rheumy yesterday, and she wants me to try to increase the plaquenil from 200mg to 400mg. I took 400mg today with lunch, and I noticed I got very dizzy shortly after taking the higher dose within an hour. It was almost like the dizziness I had when I was on percocet after surgery, could only lie down and couldn't think clearly.

PLAQUENIL Side Effects, Reviews by Patients - Unbearable rash and hives. I look like I have the worst sunburn ever. Every crease in my body like behind knees and elbows hurt like a sunburn. My skin is peeling with scabs. I started having a rash and hives on my upper body about a week after starting Plaquenil but I thought it had to do also with a prednisone pack I had been on.
